Proper dental care keeps teeth healthy

Your dentist can actively support you with dental hygiene

Good dental care takes place every day at home or on the go – with toothbrushes, toothpaste and other aids such as dental floss. And modern dental care also takes place in the dental practice itself. The dentists at London Dentaly explain in detail the advantages that proper oral care will bring you.

Proper dental care has to be learned

The complete removal of plaque is crucial for successful dental hygiene.

Plaque and food particles between the teeth feed bacteria.

Some of these pathogens cause the two most common dental diseases: tooth decay and periodontal disease.

Fortunately, proper dental care can help prevent these diseases. Daily dental care at home is the basis for healthy teeth. It can remove some of the dangerous residues. What you cannot do by brushing your teeth at home, professional teeth cleaning in our practice in London can achieve. It is carried out by experienced oral hygienists and ideally takes place every quarter.

What you can do yourself for dental care

You should brush your teeth thoroughly with the toothbrush three times a day – in the morning, at noon and in the evening, after meals or before going to bed. After consuming acidic beverages such as fruit juices or cola, wait at least an hour before brushing your teeth. Only then has the enamel regenerated to such an extent that there is no risk of tooth damage from brushing.

When brushing your teeth, make sure that the bristles of your toothbrush are intact. You should change your toothbrush about every three months to ensure optimal dental hygiene. In many cases, teeth cleaning with an electric toothbrush is particularly effective.

After brushing with a toothbrush and toothpaste, it is important to clean the contact surfaces between the teeth with dental floss. The bristles cannot do that.

In some patients, the teeth are already affected by gum recession. Then you should also use interdental brushes to clean the enlarged spaces between the teeth.

You should brush your teeth for about two minutes – preferably always away from the gums towards the crown of the tooth (red and white technique). In the dental care with the brush, you should include the chewing surfaces as well as the inside and outside of the teeth evenly.

Correct brushing technique also means: Please make sure that you only exert little pressure on your teeth with the toothbrush in your mouth. In this way, tooth necks and gums remain intact during tooth cleaning. The electric toothbrush has the advantage that it works particularly smoothly.

The dentists at London Dentaly will be happy to give you advice on the right technique for dental hygiene. They are individually tailored to your teeth. Please ask us about it during your next examination or simply make an appointment with us.

Dental hygiene at home is usually not enough

However, stubborn deposits cannot be dealt with toothpaste and a brush or with dental floss. Only the oral hygienists in the dental practice have the necessary instruments and techniques to remove such deposits. Regular professional teeth cleaning is therefore essential to keep your teeth healthy.

Dental prophylaxis in our practice

The teeth cleaning in our practice offers your teeth the best possible protection against dental diseases such as tooth decay and periodontitis. But it also brings white teeth. Our dental prophylaxis measures include:

  • Remove all soft and hard plaque with the Prophy-Jet and special brushes
  • An extensive tooth polish so that plaque does not stick so easily
  • The smoothing of rough areas on teeth and fillings, which also helps against plaque
  • The hardening of the tooth substance with fluorides so that the teeth become more resistant to acids and pathogens

The cleaning of the gum pockets

The dentists at London Dentaly have put together the professional prophylaxis program (PPP) for comprehensive dental care. Our dental prophylaxis includes quarterly professional tooth cleanings that are precisely tailored to your teeth. In addition to the special dental care in our practice, there are nutritional advice, tips on oral hygiene as well as saliva and bacterial analyzes – everything for your health.
